How to Use a Male External Catheter:

Prepare the skin. Clean and dry the skin prior to applying the male external catheter. No moisturizer or lotion should be used.

Determine Correct Size. Measure circumference and length using a size guide to determine the correct size for a male external catheter.

Apply the Catheter by placing the catheter on the head of the penis, keeping 1/4″ – 3/4″ gap between the penis and outlet tube. Gently unroll the catheter towards the base of the penis and gently squeeze the catheter around the shaft of the penis for a few seconds to ensure adhesion.

Connect the Urinary Drainage Bag.  Connect the catheter to a leg bag or hanging urine drainage bag. Insert the plastic connector of the tubing into the full length of the catheter tip.

Chang the male external catheter daily. Carefully roll the male urinary catheter off and inspect the skin after removal. Warm water and mild soap may be helpful to aid in removing the adhesive. Detach the catheter from the urinary drainage bag. Dry skin thoroughly and inspect before re-applying the new catheter.
